Hockey League Website Administration Details


PLEASE READ : The following may look a little overwhelming but once you are in the system and try it you will realize it is very easy to use and manage. Most screens provide direct help with tips, steps and notes. It is very scalable, meaning you can add as many features available or none of the extras at all.
LEAGUE ADMINISTRATION HELP

WEBSITE ADMINISTRATION HELP
Start A League
1. Edit your league settings.
2. Add a season.
3. Add divisions.
4. Add locations
5. Add teams to each division.
6. Add players to teams.
7. Add games to schedule.
8. Add web pages, PDF files, announcements, photos, etc.

Add a New Season or New Playoffs Season
1. Click Seasons in menubar
2. Change status to 'Closed' for any 'Open' seasons by clicking 'Edit'
3. Click 'Add New Season'
4. Enter new season name and click button
5. Change Status of the new season to 'Open' by clicking 'Edit'
Note : This makes the new season as the default
Note : Season name could be 2010/11 Season, 2010/11 Playoffs
Add/Edit Rink Location & Maps
1. Click 'Locations' in the menubar
2. Click 'Add New Location' or Click 'Edit'
3. Enter data and follow the instructions on page to add a map

Change Game Starting Times
1. Click 'Settings' in menubar
2. Look for 'Game Starting Times:' section
3. Follow instructions on left side.

Change Length of a Game
1. Click 'Settings' in menubar
2. Look for game length
3. Enter time in minutes and save
Note : This affects the goalie averages

Allow teams from all divisions to play eachother
1. Click 'Settings' in the menubar
2. Click 'Yes' under 'Allow Inter-Division Play' and save

Show League Wide Leader Board if Multiple Divisions
1. Click 'Settings' in the menubar
2. Click 'Yes' under 'League Wide Leader Board' and save

Add a Division
1. Click 'Divisions' in menubar
2. Click 'Add New Division'
3. Enter name and save

Edit/Delete a Division
1. Click 'Divisions' in menubar
2. Click 'Edit' or 'Delete' for appropriate division
3. For 'Edit' - make changes and save
Note: Player stats remain if a division is deleted incase they remain in the league.

Add a Playoff Schedule in Advance
1. 'Close' regular season
2. Add new season with Playoffs in the name (see above)
3. Set new playoff season status to 'Open'
4. Add schedule to playoff season
5. 'Close' Playoff season
6. Change regular season status back to 'Open'
7. Add an announcement saying playoff schedule is available
8. Change Playoff season to 'Open' when regular season is done

Add Games to Schedule
To Add Games One At a Time
1. Click 'Schedule' in menubar
2. Click 'Edit Entire Schedule' to work with all teams.
OR
2. Click 'Schedule' next to team name to work one team at a time.
3. Click 'Add New game'
4. Enter game details and save.
Do steps 3 and 4 until done.

To Add Entire Schedule At Once
1. Click 'Schedule' in menubar
2. Follow instructions on right side.
3. Click 'Save New Schedule'
4. Check for any errors and correct them

Enter Game Scores and Stats
1. Click 'Schedule' in menubar
2. Click 'Edit Entire Schedule' to work with all teams.
OR
2. Click 'Schedule' next to team name to work one team at a time.
3. Click 'Edit' next to game to enter scores and stats
4. Click 'Save Changes'
Do steps 3 and 4 until done.
Note : You may change game stats at anytime and multiple times if necessary.

Add a Team
1. Click 'Teams' in menubar
2. Click 'Add New Team'
3. Enter Team information and save

Edit/Delete a Team
1. Click 'Teams' in menubar
2. Click 'Edit Info' or 'Delete' for appropriate team
3. For 'Edit Info' - make changes and save
Note: Player stats remain if a team is deleted incase they remain in the league.

Add/Edit A Team Photo
1. Click on 'Teams' in menubar
2. Click 'Edit Info' for appropriate team
3. Click on 'Choose File' button
4. Select the JPG or JPEG photo file
5. Click on 'Save'
Note : the photo shows up on the team page.
Note : if you change the photo you have to click refresh in the browser menubar to see the new photo

Move A Team To A New Division
1. Click on 'Teams' in menubar
2. Click 'Switch Div' for appropriate team
3. Make selections
4. Click on 'Save Changes'

Add Players to League
Add 1 Player at a time (all data)
1. Click on 'Players' in menubar
2. Click 'Add 1 Player at a Time'
3. Enter data. See notes at bottom
4. Click on 'Add Player'

Add 10 Players at a time (basic data)
1. Click on 'Players' in menubar
2. Click 'Add 10 Players at a Time'
3. Enter data. See notes at bottom
4. Click on 'Add Players'

Add ALL Players at once (all data)
1. Click on 'Players' in menubar
2. Click 'Import List of Players via File'
3. Follow instructions on page
4. Click 'Done'


Move Players To A New Team
One At a Time
1. Click on 'Players' in menubar
2. Click on player to move in left list box
3. Click on 'Edit Player Information' button
4. Change the team.
5. Click 'Save'

One or Multiple Players At a Time
Note : This method works only in Internet Explorer
1. Click on 'Teams' in menubar
2. Click 'Move Players' for appropriate team
3. Read instructions at bottom for correct movement
4. Click on 'Save Changes'

Add/Edit A Player Photo
One At a Time
1. Click on 'Players' in menubar
2. Click on player to move in left list box
3. Click on 'Edit Player Information' button
4. Click 'Choose File' in photo row and select photo.
5. Click 'Save'

One or Multiple Players At a Time
1. Click on 'Teams' in menubar
2. Click 'Edit Players' for appropriate team
3. Click 'Choose File' in 'New Photo' column
4. Select photo. 5. Click on 'Save Changes'

Register a Player
1. Click on 'Players' in menubar
2. Click on a player from the unregistered list
3. Click 'Edit Player Information'
4. Select a team
5. Change 'Register' to Yes
6. Click on 'Save Changes'

Un-register a Player
1. Click on 'Players' in menubar
2. Click on a player from the registered list
3. Click 'Unregister Player'
Player now moves to 'Unregistered List'
Player stats remain

Delete a Player
1. Click 'Players' in menubar
2. Click on a player in Register or Unregister list
3. Click 'Delete Player'
Note: Player is removed from active lists. However, player stats remain for historical league and team stat pages.

Make Website URL www.MyLeague.com
Note : It will cost between $2 and $12 (depending on the URL) every year
1. Click Here to go to GoDaddy.com
2. Enter URL to search for in the box 'Start Your Domain Search Here'
3. After you find an available URL click on 'Continue to Registration'
4. Do not purchase anything else with the URL unless you want a privacy setting
5. Sign into Godaddy.com when completed URL purchase
Note: It may take a few days to fully register a URL
6. Click 'Domain Manager' under My Account at the left side
7. Click on your URL link
8. Click on 'Manage' in the 'Forwarding' section
9. Enter your the hockey stats URL in the Forward box then click 'OK'
ie. www.nhl.hockeyleaguestats.com
Note: Wait a few minutes. Then anyone who goes to your league URL automatically gets sent to the stats URL.
Example : If your new league URL is NHL.com then entering in NHL.com in the address bar sends you to nhl.hockeyleaguestats.com where all the league stats are located.

Get Web Traffic Statistics For Your League Site
1. Click Here to go to Google Analytics.
2. Click on 'Sign Up Now' to sign up for a web traffic report account
3. Complete the sign up form
4. Login into Google Analytics
5. Click 'Add Website Profile' found near the bottom
6. Select 'Add a Profile for a new domain'
7. Enter the URL in the URL textbox. ie. www.nhl.hockeyleaguestats.com
8. Do not check 'Apply Cost Data'
9. Click 'Finish'
10. On next page, make sure A single domain (default) is selected
10. Copy text in the box where it says 'Paste this code on your site'
11. Click 'Settings' in the menubar above
12. Paste text in the box for 'Google Analytics'. Found near bottom
13. Click 'Save'

To View Stats
1. Log in here
2. Click 'View Reports'

Place the Weather Forecast Above the Schedule
1. Click Here to go to Weatherbug.com.
2. In Step 1, Click on 728x90 radio button to select wide rectangular box
3. In Step 2, enter email and location then click on 'Search'
4. Select correct city in 'Select your city' list box then click 'Go'
5. Select your station in the station list box
6. Select units and check Terms and Conditions box
7. Click 'Get Code'
8. In Step 3, highlight and copy all the code in the box
9. Click 'Settings' in the menubar above
10. Paste text in the box for 'Weather Forecast'. Found near bottom
11. Click 'Save'
Note : This shows the short term weather forecast above the schedule

Create a PDF File Without Software
Note : Use software to convert documents to PDF files if you already have it
Note : This describes converting a document to a PDF file without software
1. Click Here or Click Here to go to PDF conversion site
2. Follow the easy instructions there
3. Now you can upload the PDF file at this site
Note : Use a freebie email and not your personal email as the email you provide could be used for spam

Create a Suspensions List
Note : There isn't a suspensions section to record names in a database
1. Click 'Web Pages' in menubar.
2. Click 'Add a New Webpage'
3. Enter the title ie. Suspensions
4. Enter the suspension list and details in the body
4. Edit the body section when the suspension list changes
Note : A link to this list is automatically created in the menubar of the league website

Create an Injury Report
Note : There isn't an injury section to record names in a database
1. Click 'Web Pages' in menubar.
2. Click 'Add a New Webpage'
3. Enter the title ie. Injury Report
4. Enter the injury list and details in the body
4. Edit the body section when the injury list changes
Note : A link to this report is automatically created in the menubar of the league website

Send Emails to League, Division or Team
1. Click 'Send Emails' in the menubar
2. Follow the instructions on how to select players to send emails to
3. Enter the subject and the email text
4. Click 'Send Emails'

Add a Link to a Google Map for Rink Locations
1. Go to Google Maps :Click Here
2. Type in the complete address in the 'Search Maps' textbox.
Note : It is important to type in the complete address so the actual address shows up when players view the map.
3. Click on 'Link' located above the map next to 'Print' and 'Send'.
4. Copy the code where it says 'Paste link in email or IM'.
5. Paste it in the map link text box when adding or editing a rink location.
Note : Maps show up when a user clicks on the rink location link.

Add an External Link to a Web Page or Home Page
1. Go to the website to where you want a link to go to
2. Copy the link from the address line at the top of the web browser
3. Click 'Settings' in menubar if you want the link in the home page
OR
4. Click 'Web Pages' then 'Add' or 'Edit' if you want a link in a web page
5. Type the following where you want the link to be:
< a href='Place link here' target='_blank' > link text </a >
ie: <a href='http://www.nhl.com' target='_blank'>Go to NHL.com</a>
Note : This will open a new tab or window. If you do not want that then remove the part that says : target='_blank'

Export Players List and Data to a Spreadsheet
1. Click 'Players' in menubar
2. Click 'Export All Active Registered Players to CSV file' to export to a CSV file so it can be opened in any spreadsheet
OR
2. Click 'Export All Active Registered Players to Excel' to export to an Excel file only
3. Open chosen spreadsheet program
4. Open the player spreadsheet file

Change Your Password
1. Click 'Users' in menubar.
2. Look for the correct user type or your name
3. Click 'Edit' in correct user row.
4. Enter Password twice and save.

Add or Edit League Contact Information
1. Click 'Settings' in menubar
2. Look for league contact info
3. Make changes and save
Note: This is the league contact info not you the website administrator.
Note: Website administrator contact info is located in the 'User' pages.

Edit Website Home Page
1. Click 'Settings' in menubar
2. Enter text for League Description
3. Add Home page Photo and caption
Note : Order is photo, description, contact info

Add / Edit a Web Page
1. Click 'Web Pages' in the menubar
2. Click 'Add a New Webpage' to create a web page
OR
2. Click 'Edit' in appropriate web page row
3. Enter data, select photo and save.
Note : A link to the web page automatically shows up in the website menu

Add / Edit a PDF File
1. Click 'Web Pages' in the menubar
2. Click 'Upload A PDF File' for new files
OR
2. Click 'Edit' in appropriate PDF file row to edit file
3. Enter PDF file name
4. Click 'Choose File' to select file to upload then 'Save'
Note : A link to the PDF file automatically shows up in the website menu

Add / Edit a Photo Gallery
1. Click 'Web Pages' in the menubar
2. Click 'Add a New Photo Gallery'
OR
2. Click 'Edit' in appropriate gallery row
3. Follow the instructions on the page when adding a gallery
Note : A link to the gallery automatically shows up in the website menu

Add / Edit a Video
1. Click 'Web Pages' in the menubar
2. Click 'Add a New Video'
OR
2. Click 'Edit' in appropriate video row
3. Follow the instructions on the page when adding a video
Note : A link to the video automatically shows up in the website menu
Note : If there are over 20 videos then the video automatically shows up in a video page

Add / Edit an Announcement
1. Click 'Announcements' in the menubar
2. Click 'Add an Announcement' for new announcement
OR
2. Click 'Edit' in appropriate announcement row to edit
3. Enter title and announcement
4. Click 'Save'
Note : The announcement will automatically show up on the left sidebar

Change Top Image Header on Website
1. Click 'Settings' in the menubar
2. Look for section on top image header
3. Enter number for 'Default Header Background'
OR
3. Click 'Choose File' to enter your own header image

Add a Division Administrator
1. Click 'Users' in menubar
2. Click 'Add Division Administrator'
3. Enter data and click save
Note: A Division Administrator can be used to look after one division only.
Note: You can have only 1 Division Administrator per division.

Add a Data Entry Assistant
1. Click 'Users' in menubar
2. Click 'Add Data Entry Assistant'
3. Enter data and click save
Note: You can have only 1 Data Entry Assistant for the league.
Note: A Data Entry Assistant can be used to enter scores and game stats only.
Note: To enter player information : a Data Entry Assistant can enter it in a spreadsheet then the website administrator uploads it.
Note: To enter a schedule : a Data Entry Assistant can enter it in a text file and then the website administrator loads it into the schedule.

Allow Team Reps to Enter Data
1. Click 'Users' in the menubar
2. Click 'Edit' on appropriate Temp Rep row
3. Enter all data
4. Check box to enter games
5. Check boxes for other authority if you wish and save

Change What Users Are Allowed To Do
1. Click 'Users' in the menubar
2. Click 'Edit' on appropriate row
3. Check boxes for any authority you want to change and save

Change Username/Password of Users
1. Click 'Users' in the menubar
2. Click 'Edit' on appropriate user row
3. Change username and password and save
